DR. MASICA JORDAN-ALSTON
(Ed.D., LCPC, CPRS | TEDx Speaker | MIT Solve Alumna | Founder, Genesis Wellness Solutions)
Dr. Masica Jordan Alston is a licensed clinical professional counselor, educator, researcher, and entrepreneur whose life's work centers on turning pain into power for individuals and communities facing addiction, grief, and systemic inequity. She earned her B.S. in Sociology and M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Bowie State University before completing her Doctorate of Education in Counseling and Psychology in 2010, later adding a certificate in Participatory Design and Applications from MIT in 2022.
Her career began in youth services, including a tenure as Dean of Students at the SEED Public Charter School of Washington, D.C. — work spotlighted in the acclaimed HBO documentary Waiting for Superman. She went on to serve as Executive Director of Organizational Excellence for Volunteers of America Chesapeake and Carolinas, and today holds a tenured faculty position at Bowie State University, where she has taught multicultural counseling for over a decade.
In 2019, after losing her father to addiction, her uncle to suicide, and her brother and grandfather within twelve hours of each other, Dr. Jordan Alston channeled her grief into purpose. She founded Jordan Peer Recovery, now one of the largest peer-led recovery workforces of its kind in the country, and later launched Grief and Loss Centers of America, which has supported more than 750 individuals through loss. She also serves as CEO of Peerfinity, LLC, a technology-enabled platform delivering culturally responsive peer support, and sits on Maryland's Adverse Childhood Experiences Initiative Advisory Committee.
Dr. Jordan Alston has provided expert testimony to the U.S. Government Accountability Office on the opioid epidemic, been interviewed by CNN's Lisa Ling, and been featured on FOX, Roland Martin's platform, in Forbes, and at TEDx Bowie State University. Through every role, she remains driven by a single mission: empowering marginalized communities through healing, education, and economic opportunity.
